Anatomy for Pain Management Coders: Use Anatomy to Decode Documentation
Amy Turner, RN, BSN, MMHC, CPC, CHC, CHIAP
Get the specialty-specific anatomy know-how you need to code your pain management practice’s services quickly and accurately. Learn to decode operative notes with ease and select the correct procedure and diagnosis code for your practice’s claims. Learn how to spot charts that are missing crucial anatomical information. That way you can work with providers to improve their documentation and make sure their claims and payments are backed by documentation that supports medical necessity.
12:55 p.m. – 1:40 p.m.
Beyond the Block: Improve Coding For Neurostimulators, Vertebral Augmentation, Decompression & More
Amy Turner, RN, BSN, MMHC, CPC, CHC, CHIAP
Select the correct code when providers treat chronic pain with more complex, high-dollar treatments such as neurostimulators, augmentation, fusion, and decompression to treat chronic pain. You may not perform these services as frequently as pain blocks, but just one denial can cost thousands of dollars. Learn to select the correct code and submit clean claims for a variety of complex pain treatments.
1:40 p.m. – 1:55 p.m.
BREAK
1:55 p.m. – 2:40 p.m.
Face the Facets & Endure with Epidurals: Identify and Stop Documentation Flaws
Amy Turner, RN, BSN, MMHC, CPC, CHC, CHIAP
Medicare administrative contractors (MACs) rolled out uniform policies in 2021 for facet joint interventions (64490-64495 and 64633-64636) and epidural steroid injections (62320-62327 and 64479-64484). The policies demand meticulous documentation, but three years later, providers still aren’t supporting the medical necessity for their services. This session will guide you through the areas where provider documentation falls short and give you tips for making sure your team produces charts that will stand up to an audit.
Bonus: MACs revisited their uniform facet joint intervention LCD in 2024. Discover the status of the latest updates during this session.
2:50 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
Live Q&A with the Speaker

Eliminate Lingering Office/Outpatient E/M Coding Pain
Doris Branker, CHC, CPC, CIRCC, CPMA, CPC-I, CANPC, CEMC
The rollout of the new coding guidelines to report office/other outpatient E/M visits (99202-99215) wasn’t a one-and-done deal. Get specialty-specific training that shows you exactly where pain practices continue to make costly mistakes and provide tips for eliminating those pain points from your practice. The CPT editorial panel has continued to issue clarifications and updates for the codes that net pain management practices billions of dollars a year. In addition, practices had to rely on Medicare and private payers to create and explain documentation rules for the new guidelines.
12:55 p.m. – 1:40 p.m.
Coding & Regulatory Update: Look Back at 2024, Prepare for 2025
Julia Kyles, CPC
A new year will bring a new round of coding updates and rules. Practices that aren’t prepared will see a new flood of improper payments and denials. Don’t let it happen to your practice. During this session you’ll discover the relevant coding updates that will go into effect Jan. 1, 2025, learn about new regulatory changes that are in the works and review some changes that went into effect this year, such as payment for the office visit complexity code (G2211).
1:40 p.m. – 1:55 p.m.
BREAK
1:55 p.m. – 2:40 p.m.
Think Like a Detective, Protect Your Pain Management Practice
Marcy Garuccio, ACS-AN, CANPC, CPMA, CPC, SME, AAPC Fellow
Improve your problem-solving skills, learn how to follow the clues and solve your practice’s toughest problems. During this session a veteran pain management and anesthesia consultant will use three case studies to show you how she helped pain management practices tackle problems that created massive debt, cut revenue, or triggered compliance problems. For example, you’ll find out how a practice got back on track after it switched to a new pain pump drug and wound up with a $70,000 debt from treating one patient. At the end of this session, you’ll know how a consultant approaches client problems and be able to apply her methods to protect your practice.
2:50 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
Live Q&A with the Speakers
Doris Banker, CHC, CPC, CIRCC, CPMA, CPC-I, CANPC, CEMC

Make Your Point. Follow the Tougher Trigger Point Injection Policies
Jessyka Burke, BSHA, CPC, COSC, CASCC
Learn how to detect and overcome the greatest risks to your trigger point injection revenue. Practices in at least 38 states must follow a tough new uniform local coverage determination that restricts the number of treatments and covered conditions. Practices that aren’t affected by the new LCD aren’t safe. Tougher private payer policies and overpayment demands also threaten their revenue. This session will give you the information and guidance you need to meet these challenges.
12:55 p.m. – 1:40 p.m.
Connect the Dots Between Chronic Opioid Therapy and Behavioral Health
Amy Pritchett, CCS, CPC-I, CPMA, CDEO, CASCC, CANPC, CRC, CDEC, CMPM, C-AHI
Behavioral health is a key component of chronic opioid therapy, but pain management providers often leave gaps in their documentation and treatment that can expose practices to lost revenue and negative audits. Delve into the behavioral health arena and work through opioid management, risk assessments, delivery and scoring of the PHQ-9 (depression) questionnaire, and medical necessity for urine drug tests. This session will also cover the local coverage determination data elements you must follow when your patients are on opioid therapy for chronic pain.
1:40 p.m. – 1:55 p.m.
BREAK
1:55 p.m. – 2:40 p.m.
Coordinated Care: Work with Orthopedists When Patients Need Chronic Pain Management Care
Jessyka Burke, BSHA, CPC, COSC, CASCC
Make sure your practice is ready and able to provide top-notch care when an orthopedic surgeon needs your provider’s expertise. Learn how to work with an orthopedist’s office to get your providers the information they need before the consult. Get tips to share with your providers so they create reports that the orthopedist can understand and use without the need for multiple follow-up conversations.
2:50 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
