Coding and billing rules for hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopies and total joint replacements are continually evolving, requiring hospitals to stay up to date to report accurate claims. Coders must familiarize themselves with 2021 code updates, including new ICD-10-CM codes for musculoskeletal conditions of other specified sites and joints and revisions to CPT® codes for arthroscopic shoulder debridement. Coders must also review a new OPPS policy that gradually eliminates the inpatient-only (IPO) list, starting with the removal of 266 CPT codes for musculoskeletal procedures in 2021.

During this 90-minute webinar, Lynn Anderanin, CPC, CPC-I, CPMA, CPPM, COSC, will review ICD-10-CM and CPT coding for hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopies and total joint replacements. She will discuss medical necessity requirements and NCCI updates impacting claims processing, and answer questions from audience members during a live Q&A session to follow the presentation.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe hip, knee, and shoulder anatomy and surgical interventions commonly performed to restore movement to these areas
  • Decipher documentation elements required by Medicare for accurate reporting and billing of these procedures
  • Apply the most specific 2021 ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopies and joint replacements
  • Discuss implications of CMS’ decision to eliminate the IPO list
