Level of Program:

Physician practices need a clear picture—as soon as possible—of the ICD-10-CM code changes they must prepare for by October 1: the date the changes take effect. CMS issued its list of 435 proposed diagnosis code changes in April, including 247 new codes, 139 revised codes, and 49 invalidated codes. Practices can expect the documentation and coding requirements to get more detailed as the codes they report become more specific. In this webinar, providers will get a breakdown of the key impacts associated with the proposed code changes and strategies to address them.

At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Select the correct ICD-10-CM code for newly listed or revised conditions
  • Educate providers about documentation elements they will need to report the new codes, beginning October 1
  • Get a first look at code changes that will affect coding for common conditions such as brow ptosis, appendicitis, and postpartum depression

Agenda:

  • Overview of key ICD-10-CM changes: The rationale for them, and what they will mean for clinicians and coders
  • 15 new post-surgical infection codes: How they will affect documentation and coding
  • Appendicitis and gallbladder infection codes: More detail and new reporting requirements
  • New pregnancy codes to expand the range for reporting triplets and quadruplets; new series of perinatal codes to help track newborns affected by maternal use of certain drugs
  • New abnormal findings codes to help track key markers for kidney stones
  • New codes for autism screening and other behavioral conditions to help support pediatric patient encounters

Who Should Listen?

Orthopedic practice coders, coding managers, billers, billing managers, clinicians, compliance managers
